our history

Arizona Tile has a rich history rooted in it’s namesake, the state of Arizona, dating all the way back to 1980. This is when the current owners, Cary Daugherty and at the time Sheryl Parker (now Daugherty) decided to pack up and move from Springfield, IL cross country to Phoenix, AZ. There, Cary, who was a carpenter by trade, was offered a position as a hardwood installer at a flooring store and there he learned to install tile. He quickly picked up a passion for the trade. Seven years and two beautiful baby boys later, the two, now married, decided to move back home to Springfield. Cary began subcontracting for the local floor covering stores and he had more work than he could handle. He soon brought in a partner and opened their own flooring store called CD Tile on Dirksen Parkway next to Jolly Tamale. Unfortunately, as these things sometimes happen in business, in October of 1995 Cary and Sheryl left CD Tile and founded The Arizona Tile Company as it’s known today.

Their first location was on Wood Duck Drive off of Mather’s Gun Club Road, west of Veterans Parkway at the I-72 interchange. From there, their business steadily grew and gained reputation within the local construction community. One by one, sales and support staff grew as did the number of installers being given work. Things had been going so well in fact, in 2000 Cary opened up Springfield Tile Outlet in half of the Midstate Gymnastics building just west of our current location. This allowed Cary to stock tile and carpet for all his builder’s immediate needs, in addition to giving the weekend warrior, do-it-yourselfers, and general public a place where they could select their material and take it that day.

Business remained great at Arizona Tile and took off at Springfield Tile Outlet. In 2007 the couple decided to make another important business decision and expand into a larger building, combining the two businesses into a one-stop shop. The former RC Cola distributorship at the corner of Hollis and Cockrell was to be the new home for the businesses and has been ever since.

Come in and see what Cary and Sheryl have been building over the last 38 years! You won’t be disappointed.
